Sensor-based Bicycle Detection in a Smart City

Smart City: Sensor-based Bicycle Detection
A future concept that uses camera and sensor technology of a smart city to automatically detect urban cyclists before they cross an intersection to foster their safety.

Indeed thousands of cyclists have accidents with turning cars every year. Parking cars, blind spots and distracting traffic guidance make it harder to properly perceive pedestrians and cyclists sufficiently early.

In this concept, cyclists are highlighted by an areal light mark, while the intersection itself is gathering data about who is moving on it. This data can be transmitted to autonomous cars and advanced driver assistance systems.
