StartFragmentWhatis curiosity?...  As an exploration to find the meaning of curiosity, my self-initiated honors project is aimed to encourage curiositywithin the context of gardens.  My research revealed that people were curiousabout nests and animals in their garden but their curiosity could never fullydevelop as they became invasive, disturbing and even disruptive. Throughouthistory wild animals have been we caged to observe them more closely or evenutilize them. As a result this changes the relationship and behaviors betweenanimals and humans. This project persuades people to question the morals andethics of having a pet caged, domesticated or tamed.  My project titled ‘Wild Pets’, is a platformdesigned for all wild animals, but for the sake of evoking a persuasive message,it has been focused on British birds. The uniquely charming viewing unit andbird box is visually designed to look like cuckoo clocks but functionally arerather different...  The bird box has a hidden 2.4Ghrz radio frequencytransmitter, camera and microphone. Below the bird box hangs a batterycompartment, which can be hooked or tied to a tree or fence. The viewing unitis to be placed inside the users home. Using a 2.4Ghrz radio frequencyreceiver, miniature LCD screen and microphone, the viewing unit displays a livefeed from the users bird box. Taken from the inspiration of cuckoo clocks asmall, beautiful and delicate pendulum will gracefully swing, making theviewing unit more of an animated product. Both units are made out of gorgeousoak, which has been carefully and ethically sourced and approved by the FSC. I have directed this project towardsexclusive users such as: the ‘Urban Nature Lover’ and for users who’s curiosityis restricted due to mobility, illnesses or allergies. This concept enrichestheir lives by reconnecting them to nature. In turn it would also support ournature conservation and help care for our biodiversity.EndFragment
