Dass Family Crest

I created this crest for my Graphic Design class. We used Illustrator to construct our crest. By doing this, I was able to understand the importance of the SMART principles. When I was coming up with ideas to create the crest, I consulted with my family to decide what best represents us. From this, I came up with the three most iconic icons of India: the Om, the cobra, and the clay tea candle. I got some inspiration from https://www.behance.net/collection/146560217/family-crest.
After coming up with 10 thumbnails, I was able to narrow it down to four probable crests that I could create. I tried to implement the three major symbols, but in a few crests, I added mountains and cacti, symbolizing where I come from. In one of the crests, I added laurels to show a classical feel to the crest as a whole.  The sketching helped me choose what logo which I wanted to create.

This was my black and white version of the final crest. I chose this one, as it was a combination of all three iterations. It had the laurels, which was much like the Roman coat of arms. I liked the warp of the Dass. I maintained the three symbols of India: the candle, cobra, and the Om.
This is my colored version of the project. I chose orange and green because I wanted to maintain the Indian flag colors : orange, white, and green. Orange and green are also complementary, so it creates a nice contrast. I added the laurels, one of them green and the orange to maintain the color scheme of the project.
