Book of Cryptids

Book of Cryptids
Cryptids are "hidden animals", animals whose existence has not yet been recognized by mainstream science. These animals are often the the stuff of legends. written off as myths or elaborate hoaxes. Some famous cryptids are Bigfoot, the Kraken, and El Chupacabra, all of which remain shrouded in mystery.

This book was my Senior Year project featuring 24 illustrated cryptids.
Sea Monk
The sea monk, or sometimes monk-fish, was the name given to a sea animal found off the eastern coast of the Danish island of Zealand almost certainly in 1546. It was described as a "fish" that looked superficially like a monk, traveling in groups and always swimming upwards following warm water currents.
Bunyip
The word bunyip is translated from Aboriginal Australians meaning "devil" or "evil spirit". The bunyip, is a large mythical creature from Aboriginal mythology, said to lurk in swamps, billabongs, creeks, riverbeds, and waterholes. Reports say that it has excessive night vision and when it hunts at night, it kills its prey by hugging it to death and eventually pulls it under swamps.
Chupacabra
The chupacabras, from chupar "to suck" and cabra "goat", literally "goat sucker" is a legendary cryptid rumored to inhabit parts of the Americas. It is associated more recently with sightings of an allegedly unknown animal in Puerto Rico (where these sightings were first reported), Mexico, and the United States. The name comes from the animal's reported habit of attacking and drinking the blood of livestock, especially goats. It is said that it can suck up to ten goats in one meal.
Kraken
Kraken are legendary sea monsters of giant proportions said to dwell off the coasts of Norway and Iceland. These creatures normally live at great depths, but have been sighted at the surface and have reportedly attacked ships. The first the kraken octopus as described by Norwegian sailors and American whalers, and a second larger version, the colossal octopus, that was reported to have attacked a sailing vessel from Saint-Malo, off the coast of Angola. Montfort disgraced himself when he proposed that ten British warships that disappeared in 1782 must have been destroyed by a group of giant octopuses.
