This is a finished example I shared with my students - their assignment was to create a sugar skull portrait in Illustrator using an image of themselves. The only raster element in their piece was to be their personal image. All other elements were created in Adobe Illustrator (vector). They learned to incorporate gradients & to adjust blending modes/transparencies. We also cover how to search for free vectors online, and how to take those files apart for a specific purpose.
