Multimedia Storytelling- Caricature/ Cameo
Caricature

Introduction: For this project I was challenged to make a caricature of myself using Adobe Draw on an I-Pad. It was also important for me to become familiar with Adobe Creative Cloud so I could save and sync files to my home computer quickly and easily. I also had to become familiar with Adobe Comp so I could combine both my cameo and caricature.

Materials:
Software: Adobe Draw, Adobe Comp
Hardware: I-Pad
Platform: Adobe Creative Cloud

Creative Process:

For my caricature I wanted to portray myself as a mythical creature. I have a passion for the ocean so I decided to put my head onto a mermaid's body. I exaggerated my features to make them pop and added in some background details to emphasize the setting.

For my cameo I used very thin lines for my facial features. I wanted to make myself look a tad more cartoonish by enlarging my eyes and lips. I used thicker brush strokes for my hair so there would be something bold which would make the photo pop.
Step 1: I googled 'mermaid' and found a suitable photo showing a mermaid's full body/tail. I screen shotted the image and brought it into adobe draw.
Step 2: I asked my friend, Kathy, to take a photo of me that was similar to the mermaid's face.
Step 3: I noticed in the image I took I was looking the opposite direction, so I used the Transform function to reflect my photo.
Step 4: I reduced the opacity on the photo of my face and added a Draw Layer so I could trace the details in my face with the brush tool.
Step 5: I did the same step again so I could trace the features of the mermaids body on a different image layer.
Step 6: I zoomed in very close while adding the scales to the mermaid' tale.
Step 7: Once I was pleased with my head and mermaid's body, I made both layers visible and used the Transform function to enlarge my head and put them both in line.
Step 8: I thought the background looked a little bare so I decided to add some fish. So I went to google to retrieve an image, took a screenshot then put it into Adobe Draw.
Step 9: Once I was done tracing the fish. I duplicated the Draw Layer and used the Transform tool to move, resize and reflect the second fish. I also learned how to Merge the Layers (Merge Down) which was very useful. And for the last final touches I added some bubbles!
Volià! I have turned myself into a mermaid caricature!
Cameo

Step 1: I asked my friend Kathy to take a side portrait of me.
Step 2: I uploaded it to Adobe Draw, reduced the opacity, added a Draw Layer then started to trace the details in my face using the Brush Tool.
Step 3: I added another Draw Layer and started to trace my hair using a thicker Brush Tool.
Step 4: I added another Draw Layer and began to trace the outlines of my body.
Step 5: I put all the layers; hair, face and body into view then I used the circle tool to trace an oval around me. And Volià!
Conclusion: While creating my caricature and cameo I became familiar with using a mobile work flow. It was great to learn how to work on an I-Pad because they are very portable and will definitely help me with my future creations. I learned how to use Adobe Draw, Adobe Comp and save things through Creative Cloud. Saving my progressions on Creative Cloud was very useful and easy because they automatically synced to my Macbook at home. I enjoyed making a caricature and cameo of myself and being creative with my features, plus turning myself into a mermaid!
