Cameo & Caricature

Character Development and Storytelling: Cameo and Caricature
Introduction
The purpose of this project was to create a cameo and caricature of ourselves. We were challenged to use a stylus and iPad to create digital vector drawings while using different Adobe Creative Cloud software.

Materials
Hardware: IPad, Adonit Stylus, Macbook Air
Software: Illustrator Draw, Adobe Comp, Illustrator CC, Indesign CC
Platforms: Creative Cloud, Behance

Creative Process:
For my cameo my goal was to create an accurate rendition of myself but with a cartoon aesthetic. I achieved this by using a variety of lines. I wanted to use the least amount of lines to create the biggest impact which is why I played with different widths and thicknesses to created my cameo.

My caricature project began with a brainstorm about how I wanted to represent myself. I decided to show myself doing something that I love; dancing. My chosen career of commercial dance has brought me down many crazy and fun paths, which is what I decided to show within my caricature rendition.
Cameo:
1; A fellow classmate took a profile photo of me.
2: After importing the photo in to Adobe Illustrator Draw I created a draw layer and outline my cameo image using the shape tool.
3: I traced the outline of my face and used different types of lines to create my sweater and hat.
4: I zoomed close into the image to get clean and accurate lines for my facial features.
5: I bumped the project into the adult application, Adobe Illustrator, and created a clean frame for me cameo.
6: The final rendition of my cameo.
Caricature:
1: I took a photo with a fun expression on my face and then imported a image of a hip hop dancer from google in to the file and placed a draw layer on top of it of both images.
2: I rotated the image so it aligned with the body and then began to trace the image. I used smooth tapered lines to trace around my face.
2a: My completed tracing of my face.
3: I began to trace the body. I reduced the size of the body so my head would be big in typical caricature style. I used smooth tapered lines to created my body as well but I was more loose with their placement to help bring movement to the body.
4: After completing the trace of my body and connecting my head, I drew in a floor and placed in a disco ball for the background to help bring the caricature to life.
5: The final rendering of my caricature piece.
Conclusion:
From this project I've learned how to work with a mobile work flow. Being able to work on an iPad and then bump your project into Illustrator or Photoshop opens up a lot more doors when it comes to design and illustration work. The process of creating the cameo and caricature was fun because it allowed me to explore an app and work process that I wouldn't necessarily choose. Though now that I have experience using these apps and different techniques, theres a high chance that I will use them in my future endeavours.
