As a child of the 80s, I loved the Fighting Fantasy adventure gamebooks. The books are part story, part game, in which 'YOU are the hero!'
Armed with pencil and dice, you choose your path through the adventure, battling monsters on the way. The books were brought to life with fantastic illustrations, and the work of artist Russ Nicholson was a big influence on me. With the 35th anniversary of the first book, The Warlock of Firetop Mountain, I couldn't resist paying tribute with a couple of my own illustrations.

I still have my old books and game logs and my kids have loved playing them too. When I was fourteen, I even wrote my own adventure 'The Lair of Gonrad' (Gonrad - Dragon - see what I did there?)
