Tactile Design: A tribute to Yoshitaka Amano

A Tribute to
YOSHITAKA AMANO

This tactile structure was a part of my assignment in my second year. It was created as a tribute piece to an artistic genius Yoshitaka Amano, and therefore many aspects of its creation were created with his ideals and styles in mind. The main structure consists of layers of paper-cutting
carefully glued on top of one another to create a sense of depth and a three-dimensional view.

The illustration was created digitally first, then printed out and cut. The main element of the
illustration follows faithfully to Yoshitaka's style, consisting of a female in focus, surrounded by
swirly motives and elements of the traditional Japanese art of Ukiyo-e. The completed structure is housed in a wooden box, sealed with an acrylic pane. The final touches added were silk-screening, in the form of his biography and his name written in calligraphy.
