Peter Fahrenkopf's profile

Anthem Foundation Helps Fund CHANGE Grant Programs

An experienced sales professional and executive, Peter Fahrenkopf serves as vice president of sales of household stationery with ShurTech Brands, LLC, in Avon, Ohio. A charitable individual outside of his work life, Peter Fahrenkopf supports the efforts of the American Cancer Society (ACS) and its fight to end cancer.

Over the past four years, the Anthem Foundation has been a key funding partner for the CHANGE Grant initiative, a platform that the American Cancer Society uses to help bring needed cancer awareness programs to underserved patient populations. During that time period, Anthem has donated $1.5 million to help fund these grants, which have been used to sponsor a number of breast cancer education opportunities at 19 different health facilities.

One of the reasons why these grants are so important is the disproportionate cancer impact on minorities, particularly African Americans. As recently as five years ago, black men were 14 percent more likely to die from cancer compared to white men, and black women were 42 percent more likely to die from breast cancer compared to white women. According to ACS chief cancer control officer Dr. Richard Wender, acknowledging these disparities is an important step in helping to alleviate them, but programs such as the CHANGE Grant platform are the real agents for transformation in terms of helping reduce these figures.
