Our Friend, He is Okay

In Edvard Munch's "The Scream of Nature," an emotionally overwhelmed man stops on a bridge whilst his two fellow travelers walk on. I have always been fascinated by these two enigmatic figures in the background.

This entry into the Adobe 5th Scream Contest (#MunchContest) asks what happens next, after the two friends in the distance realize their third companion has lagged. In "Our Friend, He is Okay," one companion vaingloriously insists on his friend's wellness while, unbeknownst to him, the remaining friend is being set upon by his own terrific dread.

Painted in my nearest approximation of Munch's style using only the digitally recreated Edvard Munch Brushes for Photoshop and a handful of my favorite Kyle Brush tools, this piece is a simple comment on the pompousness with which many dismiss both the validity and the proliferation of mental illness.

Tools: Photoshop CS6 and Wacom Bamboo Fun tablet.
