The brief was to design a half organic half mechanical object that would be formed out of foam, molded into plaster, and then made with silicone. I combined the miniature handle of a chainsaw with, ironically, the head of a beaver, while keeping the overall form as ergonomic as possible. In the end a silly yet kitchenwaresque comfortable to handle Beaver Chainsaw was created and then eventually retrofitted with LED eyes.
A plaster mold was made from a foam carving that was spackled, coated in kills, and then sanded up to 2000 grit sand paper. Unfortunately, the foam model was not documented before it was damaged in the mold.
A two part silicone was mixed and then poured into the mold.
Working LED lights trigger were added as a side project and are turned on by the back trigger. An area for a 9v battery was carved out of the bottom and can be enclosed in the silicone.
