'He must have been a gardener that cared a lot, who weeded out the tears and grew a good crop; but now it all looks strange, it's funny how one insect can damage so much grain.'
- Bernie Taupin (after Lennon was murdered).
I decided to make this illustration about John Lennon to keep his memory alive for me.
I started by using a photograph of John as a reference, then I tried to highlight the most outstanding aspects; hair, face, shadows, lights and his characteristic eyeglasses.
Now, the process I used to reach to my final design.
I started with a solid base color, then added color to the skin, eyes and mouth, also added details to the hair and different shades of shadows and lights, finally I chose the typography, the texts and the background color.
I chose the quote 'reality leaves a lot to the imagination', because it's a phrase that John said and has marked a lot my life.
I also used a graffiti mural in the background, because it seems to me that it's a true way of expressing the meaning of 'imagination'.
I did an alternative version of my illustration using the colors of the four-color process, letting my imagination fly a little.
