NJIT 2012 Summer Design Program
My award-winning design responded to the client's (Newark Museum) desired programming for a dynamic community space. My design is a conceptual, ductile structure that adapts to the desired programming of the Museum: flush with the surrounded lawn for sports, raised for stadium style seating at concerts (plus the added relief of shade underneath during the day), and a rolling shape to create interest  and interactivity among the other sculptures in the garden. Beckoning to organic forms, this living piece of architecture will keep patrons returning to experience this space time and time again. Designed July 2012 in SketchUp Rendered using Revit.
Some basic concept sketches of the membrane andhow it will be secured to the lifts and the format of the structure.
Isometric view of structure in courtyard.
Isometric view of structure showing the museum, courtyard, and added shade under the structure.
Structure elevated for shade underneath, open space above.
Structure in transit between forms.
Structure in flat form - ideal for kids playing soccer or an unaltered feel.
View of steps leading underneath the structure, and the lifts that would change the structure's form.
