Twenty Two Stitches

Twenty Two Stitches is a chilling account of a wife and her husband over a period of seventy two hours.

When I began the research for my final major project I looked at the subject of Love. After producing a few experimental design pages about the research I had found, I felt as though the subject was too sweet, too sickly, and too boring, I decided instead to focus on the darker side of love, when flirtation turns to harassment and when love turns to obsession.

Through a friend I found an amazing person who had been through the horrific tragedy that is an abusive-domestic violent relationship. After a number of interviews I decided the most effective way to portray her story would be to display it over a timeline and have it as a continuous stream of thoughts and actions.

Starting with her daily routine I built up how fights started, how they ended, the thoughts and the feelings of the woman involved, and how everything was connected.

I had the entire thing printed on lining paper because it provided a favoursome texture when reading. The entire length of he book is over 5 metres and printed continuously to provide the maximum effect.
