Little Lety: Day of the Dead

As usual, everything starts with a handmade sketch. To make this drawing, I take as inspiration the original zinc etching of La Catrina by famous artist Posada.
I could start painting the face of Lety totally white, but I wanted to give the impression that she has the face covered with makeup, so I started with a purple base for her skin instead.
In a layer above the skin one, I applied a hard brush to simulate the make up strokes.
The Catrina is famous for its characteristic huge hat adorned with flowers and feathers.
To simulate the light of multiple candles in the background, I add a bokeh background.
The torso is made the same way as the face: a purple base with hard strokes above to simulate makeup on top.
I created the decorative elements in illustrator, and then I import them to Photoshop. Applying effects, I can quickly adjust the appearance of the decoration.
The final touch, a jade necklace. To create the necklace, I just made one single sphere, then copy-paste several times and distribute them around the neck.
And that's all! The illustration is complete. Just need to add the logo from Illustrator and some legal stuff.
