Avatar for a Microsoft HoloLens project

During my internship in the Advanced Gaming and Simulation Studio in the University of Toledo’s College of Engineering, I worked on developing an avatar that was to be used for a program being written for the Microsoft HoloLens. The HoloLens is a mixed reality device. This means that it allows digital material to exist and interact with the user in the physical world in real time.

The application this avatar was built for was an avatar-to-human communication program that was running off of a specially developed AI (artificial intelligence). This program allowed the user to converse with a digital avatar as if they were speaking with an actual person sitting in front of them. The program was developed to help people learn how to handle different social situations, whether it is for future jobs or for individuals that need help with verbal communication.

The 3D model itself was modeled, textured, and rigged in Autodesk Maya. The programming for its actions and behaviors was written in Microsoft Visual Studio.
