ILLUSTRATIONS FOR "MISERY" TITLE SEQUENCE
Briefed to design the artwork for a motion title sequence for a film of choice, I decided to choose a personal favourite and movie classic, "Misery". The original title sequence for the film itself leaves little to be desired. With a lot of scope for improvement I undertook the task of approaching the project from another direction.

I undertook an illustrative approach to the sequence, drawing various scenes from within the film, subtly hinting at the film's content. I decided that the motion camera would pan across each illustration in sequence, following the developing flow of the intricate, bleeding line work that connects all illustrations to one another. The growth of these lines leads the viewer from one illustration to the next, merging into, and in some cases overpowering the artwork. The dominance of these lines is reminiscent of the aggressive strength of Kathy Bates' character, yet the intricacy of them also reflect her character's more fragile nature. The concept of watching the line art grow issues a building tension, and the rising question of where you're being lead to next.

Below I've featured some extracts of the sequence, followed by the grid displaying the path of the camera movement.
