With these series I wanted to express a sad and unique issueI witnessed when I was in Iran. Iran is somehow still a very"conservative-minded" state, however, homosexuality issue affecting akind of duality appears. Few people know that in Iran, homosexuality ispunished if embraced publicly. Moral crimes perpetrators are still stoned, hanged or executed in Iran Islamic Republic. Therefore we can say thatcurrently in Iran religion controls the state, which many believe it's not allright.
I was surprised to discover that after Tailand, Iran is the countrywhere they perform the largest number of sex change operations. Being a Muslimcountry, it is nevertheless notable. The surgery is allowed, and even thegovernment will pay for half the costs of the intervention. The state is thussomehow "forcing" homosexuals, through surgery, to becometranssexuals. However, we all know that homosexuality and transsexuality arecompletely different things.
The fate of many homosexual individuals istherefore trapped between death, prison or the loss of their identity. Suchinformation and experiences inspired me to communicate it through graphic art.
