By using bamboo wood for the shaft and handle, the product becomes biodegradable for a large part while remaining firm.
Beyond the material choice, it is customisability that makes this umbrella more durable and more sustainable over its entire life-cycle. As it is, the recycling rate for umbrellas has remained low despite the increasing general recycling rates. This is the result of the umbrella parts, which are derived from different materials, being difficult to disassemble, especially when it comes to separating the canvas from the spokes.
By enabling the detachment of the canvas, users can replace a damaged canvas while also opening the possibility of alternating between different colour palettes.
The umbrella is opened by twisting (to unlock) and pulling the handle.
