This is my sgraffito cup. I had been working on this cup for quite the extended period of time and is one of the first cups I made. It was made out of one slab and cut out from a cup smaller cup outline. Initially I made this cup, bagged it and put it on the shelf only to forget about it. However, I had remembered my cup and added a foot with a single coil and began the process of sgraffito. This piece was done in underglazed and fired and is now sitting as bisque ware with which I need to apply a gloss glaze.
All in all, this piece was one of my most recent to be completed and it definitely shows my massive gain of experience since my early projects. In sgraffitoing I had no idea planned of what to do. So, I just made one line and then let that carry me onward from there. I did one line toward the top and another line that spirals off toward the bottom. In the middle I have several diagonal lines going across until they meet a dollar sign in the middle. On to the principles of design, it has color it has been painted black. It has form in that is three dimensional, and the piece is balanced.
