the 1011 chair

The 1011 chair is designed to push the boundary of the wood joinery technique and plywood as a flexible material.

Made from 3 same laminated plywood parts and jointed only by dovetail joint (or called butterfly joint), the chair is structurally stable and light weight.

The wood joint, also called the tenon and mortise joint, is kind of joinery technique in woodwork which is always used in Chinese wooden furniture. In China,the wood joint is a symbol of craftsmanship

But since most joints are hidden inside, a lot of people have no idea about the beauty and ingeniousness of a simple wooden furniture.

However, dovetail joint is one of the few kinds of joint which can be seen without taking apart the furniture. So the decision to use only dovetail joint to build up a piece of furniture was made to support the initial intension to visualize the power of wood joinery technique.
