dashboard design

In this dashboard design, aesthetically attractive form and practical details come together. Its design features a modern face with a new components and a new assembly technique
(composed of 3 main parts for dashboard and one main part for left console). Thanks to this technique, maintenance and service of this product group is easy and available when needed. Visually, this dashboard design expands the width of the cockpit and flows into the console design. This creates a focus point at the centre for all the important displays and buttons.
Giving a feeling of control inside and ensuring the dominance of the bus to the bus driver is one of the most important design priority to achieve. The main instrument panel area is the major element of this new design. This black area not only consist the instrument panel but also rear view monitor, tachograph and air nozzles. In order to emphasise the feeling of surrounding the driver, all the functional elements and buttons are categorized according their usage priorities and placed ergonomically around the driver.
Design and development process of this dashboard started with idea generation sketches. After choosing the design idea among various alternatives; scaled clay modelling process started. Reverse engineering was the next process; at this stage, choosen model was transferred to the digital media by using 3D scanners. Therefore, the following stage was the digital modelling process.
During the digital modelling process some required design changes were made. Real size prototype was manufactured with real materials in order to observe the driver experiences.
After all, the mass production process of this totally new vehicle has been started.
I was the only responsible designer of  this dashboard design and development process starting from sketching till the prototype process.
