University Lutheran Chapel : Branding

University Lutheran Chapel
Brand Identity and Business Collateral
I worked on this project in conjunction with Karen Moeller of MOE Design. University Lutheran Chapel, just off the campus of the University of Michigan, had recently undergone a complete remodel and revitalization. This included a commercial coffee shop in the basement of the church. Karen Moeller designed the brand identity for The Common Cup Coffeehouse, and I took on the branding for "the Chapel." I created an iconic logo, combining a chalice (used in communion) with a rendition of the rose window in the sanctuary of the chapel. I selected a color palette from the window. In addition to being influenced by the rose window, the circular shape around the chalice was inspired by the way the congregation celebrates communion in a circle surrounding the altar. This is referenced by many to be a touching high-point in their worship experience at the chapel.
