Generative De Stijl Art

This series of work is inspired by Piet Mondrian’s Composition paintings. Many other De Stijl artists also created works that explore the composition of colors and geometries. I was curious about why the artists choose to paint this composition but not the other. Was it purely because they were more visually pleasing to human eyes? What is the rule of the harmony that the artists pursued? Therefore I created this Generative De Stijl art series to explore what are the possible compositions that the artist never picked and the difference between this works and the ones that had been produced in the art history. The result reveals many compositions that artists are unlikely to make, but are just the same as the paintings that human artists considers beautiful and harmonious from the point of view of the algorithms. This series of work evokes people to think of the difference of the world between the eye of humans and of algorithms.
Technique
I created the compositions in Grasshopper by tuning only one parameter and several functions related to it. The parameter is a set of integers changing from 1 to 50, which gives all the difference of the number of divisions, the color of divisions, the thickness of the division lines and the wideness of the white edge.
Find the functions that I used and the diagram of Grasshopper below.
