found piece of railroad track, porcelain cast of found tubing, gouache, acrylic, spray paint, clear varnish

This piece is about the conglomerate body;  the body as a combination of parts which are replaceable, removable, and ornamental. Specifically addressing the female reproductive system. In December 2011, my left ovary and fallopian tube were surgically removed because of ovarian cancer, yet my body is still capable of reproduction, and functions normally. This made me question what is really necessary for human functionality, and how the stripped- down body is still a capable body. What parts are ornamental- theoretically functioning as aesthetic purposes, like symmetry ?

about the railroad track: in the 1800s, when "hysteria" was a popular diagnosis for women of all ailments (or sexual frustration), physicians would prescribe "long trips on trains" because of the "therapeutic" vibrations caused by early locomotives.
