Bik.E, VW Micro Mobility (2009)

VW Micro Mobility Project (2009) :
Volkswagen Bik.E, a last mile mobility device that replaces spare tire

The battery will be charged while the vehicle is operating. This small device will be useful for short distance travel after parking. If the parking space is far from the final destination, you can move to the final destination with the power of a lithium ion battery.

Due to the legal status of electric bicycles around the world, there is still a lot of controversy. For example, if you do not have a pedal, it will be classified as a scooter, not a bicycle, so your responsibility and insurance will be completely different. Also, when the battery discharges, it becomes a heavy burden.

12.5 miles (20 km / h), 12.5 mph (20 km / h) is a spec that is good enough for someone but might be a little short for someone. For your reference, this concept has been designed not only in Europe, but also in Asian markets such as Beijing, Shanghai and Seoul. But, The market is too volatile to ask which one is more important, portability or performance.

In 2009, I was given an internship at the Future Research and Trend Transfer department of Volkswagen AG, a global automotive manufacturer based in Wolfsburg, Germany. The department runs 'Trend Lab', where researchers from various fields such as technology, society, and finance work together. I was involved in the concept team of the 'Micro Mobility Project', which presents the vision and concept of eco-friendly alternative transportation means in smaller units.

Bik.E is one of the many alternative concepts suggested at the time of this project. The prototype was designed and built by VW design center. It was introduced at Auto China Beijing in 2010.

Below are some idea sketches that I thought about in the process of getting the concept in the early stages.
