I took this photo at the end of a dead-end road, where the last thing I expected to find was this piano. The piano is something that is deeply important to me. I’ve been in love with it ever since my first lesson so many years ago. Needless to say, I was fascinated with this abandoned instrument and when I look at this image, it immediately elicits an unsettling sense of transience and awe. I find myself wondering at the craftsmanship and artistry of the instrument itself, some of which are priced upwards of tens of thousands of dollars, and dismayed at its disposal. It’s a disturbing reminder of the inevitability of decay. At the same time, there are subtle overtones of the beautiful thing it once was. I hope the perspective and angle puzzle the viewer into experiencing these contradictory sensations.
