LoMein The Lucky Lunch Cat

So this is the start of my lunch (half) hour drawings. LoMein came into being on a day when I forgot my lunch, leftover lo mein, and decided to pass the time with some sketches, and it ended up being a cat, so yes, I named my Japanese luck cat after a Chinese dish, he could have been called a sandwich.

I wanted to continue playing with the linework, simple color pallet, and embossed paper feel I used in the Terminal Velocity series. It's a look I love, and given the subject matter, I thought it fitting.

The rough sketch is done on my Wacom Cintiq Companion, and from there, I move to Adobe Illustrator. The raster image was then hand inked into a vector image using a Wacom Intuos Pro and Astute Graphics' Dynamic Sketch for digital inking. The color was done with texture and blending modes with gradients to emulate traditional Japanese woodblock prints.

This is the original sketch that I did completely in Autodesk's Sketchbook Pro. After this I did only line work in Sketchbook Pro since the colors were going to be made of patterns.
