Magazine Spread Mock-up
For this project we were asked to choose an article from a few selected sites and design a magazine layout. The requirements for this project included producing three pages, using two original photographs, a blockquote, at least three subheaders, 2-3 columns of text, a text wrap, and most importantly, good principles of design.
Page One of Magazine Layout
In order for my first page to serve as a focal point and invite the viewer to read the article, I decided to use my first photograph as a full-size background element. I also used typographic hierarchy to direct the viewer's eye in the main bodycopy. The full-width, semi-transparent color blocks behind the subtitle and author information are designed to draw the viewer's eye toward the center of the layout where they would find the beginning of the article.
Page Two of Magazine Layout
For the second page of this layout, I began with a blockquote set apart with large, stylized quotation marks in a serif font to contrast it with the bodycopy. The rest of the layout includes two columns of text in a contrasting color from the background color and the first half of a diagonal stripe of color that continues on the third page.

The last page of this layout includes the final image set in a circle with the text wrapping around it. The colored stripe continues on this page to provide a repeating element through the last two pages.
