Om designet:
Quebrada is a new high end brand, born in Argentina bred in Norway. Bags, purses and portfolios handmade from high quality cow-leather.
Quebrada is a Spanish word. The adjective-meaning of the word is broke, which is pretty much why and how this brand exists now. I was broke and in need of money.
During one of my law-lectures at Universidad de Empresa de Argentina, where I study global business management and portuguese, I found myself frantically searching through the dictionary with little luck. All of my lectures were in Spanish and unfortunately my Spanish-Norwegian dictionary didn’t have a chapter that translated “old-school Spanish law-expressions.” The thought of this, and three other law-classes with no usable dictionary, made me sweat. When the professor announced that the exams were oral, I panicked. I was in dire need of a private tutor.
I, as many other students, live on a budget
which does not include perks such as a tutor. So, as I was considering selling my kidney on eBay, a friend of mine called. She inspired me to use my creative side, which exists, but had got lost in the world of business-studies.
If there is one thing I’ve learned while living in Argentina, it’s that it offers some of the best leather in the world. And as a girl, with an above-average interest in bags and accessories, the combination was perfect.
I started out drawing and designing the bags and then went hunting in the leather-markets. With all that in place, I only needed someone to transform it from a drawing and a piece of leather, to an actual bag. That’s where my friend Micaela comes in. I studied economics with her at Universidad del CEMA, and she comes from a family, which owns a factory that produces handmade leather products for well-known brands in Argentina. The factory is actually located next door to her family’s house!
This inspired me to believe in my designs and branch out to the Norwegian market as well as selling them in Argentina.
