One of the legendary mystical stories for Japanese society is the story of Kuchisake-onna. He is described as having a terrible appearance, with a torn mouth.

According to local stories, Kuchisake-onna is an evil spirit who returns from the dead and can appear anywhere and anytime. He has a defect on his face and is killed by a jealous husband. This urban legend emerged in the Edo period in the 17th century.

Kuchisake has fallen in love with another man, and plans to leave her husband. Jealous, her husband beat Kuchisake unconscious and tied him up. When Kuchisake woke up, her husband threatened to kill him if he left him. Her husband uses large scissors to tear his mouth into a permanent smile to his ears.

"Who will consider you beautiful now?" he asked before decapitating his wife from his body. But when he finished, the husband regretted that he killed himself. Ghost Kuchisake is roaming and can come at any time. His mouth is always covered in a mask, paper fan or scarf to hide the damage on his face. He can suddenly appear in front of people. While holding a large pair of scissors, he asked, "Am I beautiful?
