A series of three posters. The first, a design based on a book passage referencing stillness. The second, defining a system of rules to create the first. The third, the result of another designer following those rules to complete the series.
This project was a bit complicated. We were given a book and had to select a passage from it to design a poster for. Then we had to design a second poster illustrating a set of rules to add a new poster to add to the series. Then we were to give the "Rules Poster" to a partner who used it to create a third poster. I wanted the three posters to look like a cohesive triptych, while still standing as individually strong pieces. For this reason I used different photographs and words for each poster and gave my partner the freedom to place the letters where they wished. The passage I choose talks about "a place where time stands still." I wanted to capture the sense of suspension the text describes. I played with many different types of graphics and photographs, both stock and my own, but ultimately settled on a theme of leaping dancers. The way their bodies freeze in midair so perfectly illustrates this idea of a frozen moment. The blue tones help shape a feeling of suspension and floating.
