Notice the Similarities

Every year in the spring, Brandeis University holds a Leonard Bernstain Festival of Creative Arts. In 2009 my sculpture class was encouraged to apply for grants to create a work of art for the festival. My friend, John Tronsor, and I were brainstorming ideas for the festival and came to the realization that we both would like to make a statement about the Israeli and Palestinian dispute. Our Idea was to create a connection between the people who thought that they are so different. We decided to represent this by creating a structure containing two rooms; each room would represent each of the sides of the disputed territories. The connection we saw as the "great equalizer" was a dinner table, since we both came to the conclusion that food is what we all as humans have in common. The consumption of food is stronger then any religion so by adding the same dinner table in each room we created a language between the two disparate groups.
