BREATH OF LIFE
Topia Art Experience, as a tribute to the Museu Nacional (which burned down in September 2018 http://twixar.me/jYDK ), promoted the art contest "Reimaginando o Acervo do Museu Nacional" (Reimagining the Collection of the Museu Nacional).
Inspired by this, I created this piece based on the Ritixòcò dolls of the Brazilian Indian tribe Karajás.
The dolls are given as a toy for teaching the children the social function of each one in the tribe.
Thinking about this relationship I imagined a world where they literally come to life through the shaman of the tribe, the Pajé (Iólo), at a very special moment, when a child (Deridu) is chosen to one day take part in leading the tribe, alongside the Pajé.
