Ginkgo Bioworks
Here is a look at some photos samples from my recent shoot at Ginkgo Bioworks in Boston’s Seaport. If you’ve never heard of Ginkgo, just imagine a place where the future is out of sync and arrived a few decades early. They build and prototype biological custom organisms. And, honestly, that sentence is at the outer edges of my understanding of the complexity of the science that they do every day.

If you really want to understand the kind of work that they do, check out the current issue of Scientific American and read the article by Rowan Jacobsen - if Ginkgo’s work is blurring the edge between manufacturing and biology, his article blurs the line between science writing and poetry. He writes about their Creative Director Christina Agapakis’ recently successful quest to bring back the scent of extinct flowers. I think you’ll need to find a print copy, but it will be worth it.
