INVISIBALLS: The visual story of the game

FROM EVERBLIND TO INVISIBALLS
The visual story of the game
The controller vibrations are crucial to the gameplay.
They act as the main feedback to know where you are but without revealing your position to the other players.
The game is a kind of hide’n’seek where the purpose of the artstyle is to support the game mechanics.
I tried to explore a universe inspired by the art deco and the prohibition period where people would play to a forbidden board game.
However, by adding too many story elements it took away from the initial concept.
I decided to start again with a much simpler approach using shapes and colours.
The new idea was “What would I do if I needed to design the a futuristic version of a charret game or abalone”.
The choice of “neon” style and the vivid colors is to match the aesthetics of the Nintendo Switch.
The different visual stages of the project were presented in the 2018 edition of Graphik Schweiz.
From the very first sketch to the final product including references to Art deco, Frank Stella & Tron in between.
