Audrey II Illustration
One of my favorite genre of music is musical theater. The art form of being able to tell a story through a series of songs is very inspirational to me. That was the reasoning behind creating this album re-design for the cult classic musical "Little Shop of Horrors". It was the first musical that really caught my attention and made me see musical theater as a true art form because it combined not just song and dance but advance puppeteering when it came to the character Audrey 2, the man eating plant from outer space!
All my illustrations begin as hand drawn sketches. Once I am satisfied with the outcome of the drawing, I then upload that drawing onto my computer and begin vectorizing the image in Adobe Illustrator.
For this piece I mainly used the pen tool to create the image of the monster. First by creating the clean line art without any color. Then on a separate layer
I added the flat colors that make up the piece. And I finished it with a third separate layer that was used for the shadows of the beast and highlights in
the blood.
