Shigai 市街 (translated to city or town) is a ramen shop based in Florida. Typically, the consumer is interested in a small, calm social setting as a break from hectic life in the city. The minimalist layout with detailed line illustrations (trams, scooters, traffic lights) call to the details of the city, to help wipe away the large, overbearing feelings of city living.
The imagery is detailed, but the off-white textured background is softly accented with blue, red and green. For paper items, everything will be printed with textures to push textured paper, but the coasters are letter pressed onto cotton. The minimalist design mixed with large forms is fusing contemporary japanese culture with the traditional japanese art of Kano Tan’yu. Tan’yu would use the original scroll background and paint or print forms that bleed back into scroll color and take the less is more route.
Shigai 市街 uses the same idea of having less stress becoming more time relaxing in a visually open space.
