Inclusive Furniture - A proposal aimed at children CP

first sketch and idea
Using concepts presented in the book "Design for all" by the author A. Accola, this project is a proposal for a child’s bed for children with Cerebral Palsy. Its goal is to promote autonomy, while allowing the child to have fun. This helps parents and caregivers in their daily care. This proposal includes the  development of furniture up until the virtual modeling phase.  The methodology and concepts were derived from both universal  and inclusive design.
Initially the project was conceived focusing on some objectives that were the low cost of production and affordable price and still the copyleft, which is to allow the right of copy of a work by other users, giving the freedom to copy, modify and redistribute, requiring that this right be maintained in all modified versions. It was thought to be a lining that could be fitted into the child's already pre-existing bed, so it was not necessary to buy a new bed and thus avoid unnecessary spending.
In this way, we opted for simple cuts and little use of technologies, making the project as simple as possible in its operation and composition. Thus the initial design would be composed of a transfer board, a door on the side so that the format of the bed did not hinder the transfer and a multifunctional table for daily activities such as study and food.
Final sketches and project
After a conversation with a specialist in which we discussed cutting plans and technology and that best applied to the project at the commercial and design level. Some problems were raised, such as the cutting plan, which, even though it was planned to do as simple as possible, would still make the design more expensive for the curves and fittings. Another aspect was the door that, when opened, would occupy a lot of circulation space, when open in the child's room since the residential spaces are decreasing by the increase of the square meter.
In addition to the ludic format, functional systems were included, taking advantage of their forms, such as a storage drawer in which the headlights of the car fulfill the role of handles. This storage space has been included in order to facilitate day care as the basic items for the care are kept close without the need for the parents / caretakers to move away from the child.
