The Illustrated Encyclopedia
of Rock Music in Vojvodina, Serbia
1963 - 2013
Vojvodina is an autonomous province of Serbia, located in the northern part of the country.
Novi Sad, the capital town of province Vojvodina and second largest town in Serbia is home town of EXIT music festival, which was proclaimed as the "Best Major European festival" at the Europe Festival Awards.
Before the 60’s, dominant music genre in Vojvodina and Serbia was mainly folk/country music. In 1961, movie "The Young Ones", starring Cliff Richard and English rock group The Shadows, was screened in cinemas all over the country and changed cultural and musical taste of young people. Inspired, above all, by The Shadows and latter on by The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, the first rock groups were formed, mainly as cover bands and afterwards they started creating their own songs.
During the period between 1960 - 2000, pop and rock music was mainstream in most cities over the country.
With 308 pages, about 300 bands, singers and songwriters, this book strives to keep all these creative people from being forgotten.
