An overhanging lamp that provides a compromise between ambient and task lighting
I decided I wanted to pursue overhanging lamps for the context of the bedroom, and then I started ideating. I ended up with 5 concepts that were different in form and style, but accomplished its purpose. The lamp would provide ambient lighting for activities such as relaxing, but also task lighting for activities such as reading or working.
I finally decided on a final concept: a somewhat combination of concepts 1 and 4. From concept 1, I took the form of the tubing and modified it slightly. From concept 4, I used the ideas of the metal hook to hold the lightbulbs, the dangling lightbulb, the string attached to the lamp shade, and the lamp shade (which I modified).

My final concept included a long and narrow wooden base which would be able to support the overhang lamp, a conduit pipe for the tubing, a metal hook, metal wire to attach to the wood frame which was attached to the circular lamp shade made from fabric, and a single hanging lightbulb inside the lamp shade that illuminates the fabric.
The lamp stands 90 inches tall so that the light is a comfortable distance from the user's head and face. It also allows light to be provided for multiple users. The base is long and narrow in order for the weight to be distributed evenly so that the pipe and lamp shade can stand upright.

Additionally, this is so the user can slide it under the bed at the head, which takes up minimal space.
The light wraps around the hook and is hanging by the chord which runs through the conduit tubing and plugged into an outlet.
The balance of ambient and task lighting is perfect for any activity for one or multiple users to comfortably enjoy.
