Geomancer's Wives and Strange Vibrations

Fine Arts
Cyclical Frequency- Self Extrapolating Geometry.
2H pencil and shellac.  A basic geometric extrapolation is created where interior forms are used as exterior measurement. The process is repeated until until the cycle is brought to completion.
Winter Garden.
Jars, plants, alcohol- various sizes. These jars are considered a sort of form battery. The alcohol "clears" the plants leaving only the translucent form. If chromotagraphy paper is placed in the fluid the color image of the plant once again reemerges.
Elephant.
Plywood, alp horn, computer, subwoofer, low frequency tonal beats.  A complex series of very low frequency tones are produced in the room. While it is largely below the suggested level of hearing in the ear the body can feel the deep bass. Because of close frequencies in the programs beats occur in the vibration as well as nodes that vibrate in different regions of the body as one walks around the room. The title refers to the low frequency communication of elephants through the ground.
The Transformation of St. John the Divine
Found parts, sheep skull, latex mask, motor, beeswax, pendulum
The motor activates an articulated sheep skull, the jaw moving in a chewing motion beneath the latex mask. A pendulum is attached to the lower jaw and swings in response to the movement drawing lissajous patterns in the air.

Electric Arc Drawing 1
Copper leaf, shellac, and graphite on paper
High voltage electricity is used to draw an arc and vaporize the copper on the page. The effect is heightened by application of graphite. The electricity drawings are about the movement and dynamic of energy as both the physical energy and the energy of thought and image.

The Geomancer's Wife
Giant robot, violin, amplifier, paintings, turntable, speaker, Persian rug, analog control mechanism, record: "West Meets East: The Historic Shankar/Menuhin Sessions"
the robot begin to dance through space in a slow undulating arc to the music played automatically by the turntable. At chaotic intervals the action shifts and a rabbit skin covered disk rubs the violin creating static electricity and a wooshing sound that is amplified and sound like the blood wooshing through the human heart.

Electric Arc Drawing 2
Copper leaf, shellac, and graphite on paper
High voltage electricity is used to draw an arc and vaporize the copper on the page. The effect is heightened by application of graphite. The electricity drawings are about the movement and dynamic of energy as both the physical energy and the energy of thought and image.

Acoustiform Drawing
Reeves paper, iodine, cornstarch
Drawing created using cornstarch on paper stretched over a speaker and modulated using various frequencies. Iodine is then soaked into the paper changing the cornstarch from white to raw umber.

Warmth Organization in Agriculture, Industry and Insect
Specimen vials, beeswax, honey, dried blood fertilizer, iron oxide, table

Crucifixion
Steel frame, wood, glass, leather, canvas, rendered hog fat, honey, etheric oil of lavender
Fat was rendered and mixed with honey and oil of lavender. these elements fill the leather sack. These aspects represent the body soul and spirit. At first the mixture was putrid after several days however there was little fragrance at all but for the aroma of flowers. This represents a purification and preservation process akin the fabled incorruptibility of the bodies of saints. I was looking to create a work that was responsive to warmth. when viewers come close by the body warmth is absorbed by the bag and it soon begins to weep the mixture down the glass and on to the pedestal.
Color/Being
Hornet nest, watercolor paint, brass, wood, steel
Each of the six walls of the cell is painted with a different color. when the nest is turned by a crank at the bottom it appears to change color through the rainbow. The plaque on the back of the piece refers to the conflict between Newton's objective color theory and Goethe's subjective viewer oriented color theory.

Thought is The Corpse of Thinking.
China plate, mason jar, preserved insects seeds and crows foot, phosphorescent paint and pitch.

Electrophoresis Drawing.
Shellac, graphite, ink, salt water.

Warmth Organ
Fat, iron wire, plywood

Geomancer's Wives and Strange Vibrations

I have always been very inspired by the works of Fluxus artists. This is part of a series of works in an attempt to explore natural phenomenon, m Read More
