Geometric Self Portrait

I was commissioned to create a geometric self portrait using Adobe Illustrator. The portrait is made up of basic shapes, the gradient tool, layers, and the eye dropper tool. This project is meant to be my first steps into Illustrator, which is why it highlights and demonstrates basic skills such as the use of the pen tool and shortcuts.
The process of creating a geometric starts with choosing an appropriate picture. I started with basic pictures, not focusing on lighting or position. I soon realized that dynamic lighting would make for a more interesting portrait. Once my picture was chosen i moved on to illustrator and the long grind that is involved in highlighting shadows with the pen tool. While the pen tool step was monotonous, the step beyond it was satisfying. The second to last point in the project involved shortcutting between the select and eye dropper tool. This process is what brings the geometric portrait to the forefront. Once that was done all that was left was to place a gradient background and my project was complete.
The project taught me how to use some basics in illustrator, such as, the gradient tool and the eyedropper tool. Along with what I learned about Illustrator as a program, I also learned that the human form can be broken down to its most basic parts and still retain the ability to be recognizable as an individual.
