Porchlight Homeless Campaign Posters

This is a self-initiated minor project created whilst at university. It is a hypothetical awareness campaign for 'Porchlight', a local homeless charity. The campaign aim is to raise awareness that people do not necessarily have to look homeless to be so. Society has many misconceptions about homeless people, including the way they appear. This campaign questions our preconceived ideas of the way a homeless person appears and encourages the audience to consider that homeless people do not usually fit within societies narrow view of the 'unkempt man sleeping in a doorway'. The series of posters explore this idea through the question 'which one of us is homeless?'. The idea here was to present the audience with a puzzle and encourage them to engage with the subject matter. They are asked to look at the young people and guess who is homeless. Because none of the young people fit our stereotypical idea of a homeless person, the question becomes hard to answer and thus they question their own perception.
