Map design for the Laker Guide

This map was created for a 2-page spread in the 2019 edition of the Laker Guide—a 48-page crash course to GVSU that's distributed to 4,000+ first year students.
After receiving feedback from students that we should include more off-campus content (things to do and places to go), we added a few more pages to the Laker Guide highlighting West Michigan. Many students aren't from Michigan, or even the United States, so we decided a map was a great way to introduce them to the layout of the area, and GVSU's location in relation to downtown Grand Rapids, the lakeshore, and everything in between. The content in the map was chosen by Leah Erben, Valerie Guzman, and me, and the design was made by me.
I created the map base by tracing rivers and roads over screenshots of Google Maps, then I added city names, GVSU campuses, icons, descriptions, and more.
