With my firstborn child coming soon my idea was the create icons that you would see with a typical newborn child. My objective was to create designs that would simple but show detail that would appeal to the viewer. Each item was to stand out in their own unique way but still follow the same rules as the previous icon.

I had a few ideas on how I wanted each item to look, through the sketches we can see the evolution of each item and how far they’ve come from paper to vectors. I chose designs that look slightly different then maybe the typical everyday item. For example, we may picture a baby bottle to be taller and more of a cylinder. For the baby bottle, I chose a more rounded shape, that still kept the look of a bottle but also not as tall and long.
I was able to use the feedback I received the make each design follow the same consistency. I removed strokes from certain icons and added shading to others. This feedback helped to improve the overall quality of my work.
I feel that my icons meet the objectives that I was reaching for through the appearance of simple icons but small details that allow each of them to stand out and be different in their own way. Each icon follows the rules I’ve set for them and shows those rules through the different placement of colors and shading.
