Advanced Art Direction - Aladdin Poster

PROJECT BRIEF:

I was commissioned to create a poster for The Dance Art School’s production of Aladdin. The poster was to feature Austin, the male lead, as Aladdin and create a sense of mystery and magic in the overall look and feel of the design. This required art direction on my part during the photography session and then again during the editing process to being the poster to life.

REFLECTION:

This project was not an easy one, on the day of the photo shoot the studio had been double booked, my friend who was going to lend me her camera fell through and the lead character's costume wasn't finished in time for the shoot. Such challenges forced me to be resourceful and creative, it taught me to persevere in my work and have confidence in my abilities. I found that I really poured a lot of myself and my skills into this piece using what I had learnt from the Art Direction activities in the Craft module. For this reason, I will be refining this project not only for the craft blog but for the client.

CHOSEN TO BE REFINED:

After the studio approved my base design I was commissioned to finished the poster together with a program and DVD cover using the same base visual. I thought this was a lovely opportunity to include the poster as a refined project for Craft due to the fact that I made extensive use of my Art Direction skills that were learnt from my Craft Sessions to complete the work. Considering all that had gone wrong along the way, I was very pleased by my end result and most importantly the client was happy. This project taught me a lot about perseverance and the art of making a plan.
