"Remembering ‘correctly’ is impossible, nor is there any need to do so."
My interpretation of an Icon corner.
My work concentrates on capturing memories and, after their evocation, on the graphical formulation and expression of these memories. Furthermore, I aim to transform the homely, Russian setting into an artistic creation.
Remembering ‘correctly’ is impossible, nor is there any need to do so. Without forgetting, there is no true art, without abstraction it is not possible to see the world in a different way. The space, and within that the corner, means different things to different cultures: in the West, they drop objects into the corner, in the East they place a sacred icon there. In my identity, both gestures are apparent, I induce misunderstanding and confusion down in the corner, which I then systematize up above. And finally, I formulate a corner of a room, a section lifted from my imagination. I intuit a never-existed memory into a work of art.
