Tactile Typography: Experiments_1

// Tactile Typography: 1

// When I was thinking about how to make the type that reflects on the whole “humour” idea, I started to think, what makes people laugh? Then I suddenly remember, everyone laugh when they are tickled. The feeling of being tickled is something that everyone can relate to. So I decided to use the factors of “being tickled” and use it as part of the typography experiments. I went to the direction of things that make people tickle, things such as: brushes, feathers, pens, toothbrush. The idea of being poked and to be tickled by poking. Hence you can see the use of things which are sharp, pointed and can be seen as it you can step on them.

// Steel Nails & Wood

Used a stencil which was printed out and then was transfered onto the wood by the use of dotting method. Then used a handrill to drill out the holes which will be used to punch in the nails and at the same time to have an accurate space in between the nails. Nails are then knocked with the use of a hammer, End result was a neat out line of the type.
// Colour Pencils & Wood

Standard colour pencils were cut into 3 segments, The cut colour segments were then filed so that they will have a smooth and leveled pencils. Wood with stencil of the type was prepared and then the coloured pencils were then glued in according to the stencil that was prepared earlier.

// Synthetic Grass & Toothpicks

Used a stencil to have an outline of the type. Then stencil was attached firmly to the synthetic grass. Holes were drilled in according to the stencil. When the holes were drilled, toothpicks were inserted in acording to the holes that were drilled earlier.

// Wood & Carpet Grass & Toothpicks

Type stencil template was printed out and then transfered to wood using dots. Carpet grass was cut into size of the wood and glued to the wood. holes were drilled in accordance to the holes that were made to have an equal distance between the toothpicks. Toothpicks are then inserted to the holes that were drilled. Toothpick were equally spaced which formed the type.

// A5 Board & Malermo 145gam - Vermilion

Pyramid stencils were prepared before hand which has 3 types of sizes. They were then cut out. Type stencil was prepared beforehand so as to avoid the confusion of the different types of cut-out. Stencils shows the formation of the squares that makes up the type. Triangular sides of stencil were folded. Folded papers were then glued in accordance to the template squares that was printed.
